Salon Etiquette

For those of yall that don't know- my mom owns a hair salon and has for over 20 years. I work for her from time to time answering the phones and cleaning up after the beauticians. Lately, since I have been unemployed, I have been working there. There has been a couple of lovely ladies that have really been grinding my gears though. In lieu of these rude women, I would like to share some salon etiquette with all of you.

Salon Etiquette 101
  • If your beautician is speaking with another client/doing another clients hair/on the phone with a client DO NOT stand there and wait for her to get done and definitely DO NOT interrupt their conversation with one of your own. It's rude. That other client deserves the same respect you will receive/received when you were in the chair.
  • If you are sitting beside a lady in the salon and you try and start up a conversation with them and get one word answers.. STOP talking to them. This may be their time to relax. They are not meaning to be rude, but you kind of are annoying.
  • When you appointment is over don't stick around for hours interrupting customers and talking to clients that don't want to hear anymore of your voice (see points 1 & 2). This is not your home, or your office. Leave your book work, laptops, and loud client phone calls where they belong.
  • If you do feel like talking while under the dryer, keep your head centered. It will take almost double the time to dry your hair if only half your head is covered by the dryer. Time is money, honey.
  • BE ON TIME. You could mess up your beauticians entire day by being late. If you are running late, shame on you, but call and let your stylist know how late you are running so they can possibly arrange their schedule and start on someone else.
  • DO NOT cancel last minute. On another note, do not not cancel and just totally not show up. Think about if you were at your job and you had 2 hours booked where you could make money but instead you just have to sit there and stare at the wall. They might be able to get another client in. CALL AHEAD and let them know.
  • Do you tip at a restaurant? I would bet my life that your stylist works twice as hard on making you look good than your waiter at fancy restaurant does. TIP PEOPLE.
  • Your beautician probably doesn't care if you spill the beans about your husbands affair or how your really upset your youngest child is going to college, but do NOT talk about politics, sex, religion, morals, or values. Your stylist probably knows your whole life story, but I can bet you probably don't know very much about them. Chances are you two don't see eye to eye on everything, and while it wouldn't be appropriate for your stylist to disagree with you, smoke is secretly coming out of her ears when you are talking about how terrible it is your friends 16 year old daughter is pregnant... guess what, she might have a 16 year old pregnant daughter too. BE CAREFUL with your words or you might end up with green hair. ;)
  • Do not get upset when you they can't get you in as soon as you want or at the right time. It is not their fault they are booked up. Trust me, they wish they could give everyone the appointments they want, but it's not that easy. BOOK AHEAD OF TIME and this won't happen. If you call the week of, do not be surprised and do NOT be rude when they can't fit you in. ADAPT.
I hope everyone learned a little from this. Sorry for my rant. I think all of this is common sense but I am blown away every single day by all the rude people in this world.

Beyonce and Jayz are Expecting!

I absolutely loved the VMA's this year.. with the exception of Lady Gaga's weirdness. I am sorry yall but I really can't stand her. I am not saying that as a musician she is not talented because she definitely is but there are some screws missing in her head and she freaks me out. Anyways, back to what I was saying.. I loved the VMA's this year. There were so many adorable moments (which I am sure I will get to in another post) but my favorite moment was the end of Beyonce's performance when she opened her jacket and rubbed her baby bump while smiling from ear to ear. They then showed her hubby Jay Z smiling and absolutely loving the moment. It was so romantic and you could feel the love all around.

If you missed it, here is the performance. If you don't have time to watch it all then skip to the very end. I promise you, it will be worth it!

(Also, please excuse Lady Gaga at the end. Totally ruins this beautiful moment.)

Congratulations Beyonce and Jay Z!
You two are both very talented and wonderful role models for every generation and this blessing couldn't have been sent to any two more deserving people.

Having Beyonce & Jay Z as your parents??
*siiiigh* Some kids get all the luck. :)

Time to hit the sack yall. It's about 1:30am and I am exhausted.

Hurricane Irene is Mean

As most of you know, I graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and moved home less than a month ago. Last night hurricane Irene hit the east coast hard. Which means that Wilmington, which is already prone for flooding, has been in a state of natural disaster starting yesterday afternoon. During my years at UNCW there were many 'hurricane warnings' which meant school closed and we had hurricane parties. The hurricanes were far from life threatening and it was all in good fun. When I heard about Irene I was honestly a little upset I wasn't there to spend that time with friends and partake in the hurricane parties. That was until I started getting texts from my friends saying things like, "Seriously, I am just scared now, I should have evacuated."

Needless to say, I spent the majority of my night last night worried sick about all my friends in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach. This morning I went online to see what kind of damage hurricane Irene did to my college town.

All pictures courtesy of Starnewsonline.com which also was very good at keep up with their twitter feed and keeping everyone updated about the storm last night (thank you!).

To all my friends in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach: I am so glad you are all safe. I wish I could have been there to make the memories with you rather than being at home worried sick! I hope all of your power comes back on soon and that they cancel classes on Monday! :) I miss and love you all.

Hopefully Hurricane Irene is the worst and final hurricane of the season!

Pray for the East Coast.. Hurricane Irene is still making it's way up to the NY area.
Everyone stay safe and evacuate if possible!

Need a Reason to Watch NFL?

Andrew and I are going to meet up with some friends with watch Thursday night football tonight (Go Panthers!) and I was thinking, how do guys talk their girlfriends into watching numerous football games a week? Now, don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy watching football most of the time, but every once and while it can definitely get old (I like to use those said times to take a long nap on the couch!).

If you are one of those ladies who's tv rarely leaves ESPN or all the other channels that broadcast football during the season, yet you don't really enjoy it but don't have the heart to bicker with your significant other about it.. I have a solution. This may not entirely fix your annoyance with the NFL but it will probably aid in some relief.

While your man is watching a bunch of big gorillas kick the ol' pig skin around.. check out the faces (and let's face it, bootys, muscles, smiles, etc.) of these cuties!

Tom Brady

Reggie Bush

Terrell Owens

Jason Taylor

Will Demps

I hope this helps you and your relationship out during this NFL season. Your man will be so proud that you are suddenly so interested in which player is which and how your eyes never leave the screen! Haha so grab so cheese dip, pizza, and a cold beer and enjoy the season ladies :)

P.S. I'm typing up this blog right beside Andrew and he is refusing to read it. Oops!
At least I'm about to be a good girlfriend and go watch the game with him.
Too bad the love of my life Drew Carter doesn't play anymore!

This sweetheart even autographed a football for my birthday one year!
Look at that smile! And that crazy hair! :)

What Does Love Mean?

I came across a website that had children describing what 'love' is. It was entirely too adorable not to share. Since I am in the mood for fall (the clothes, the leaves changing, and the yummy food) I decided to make this the fall edition of my Rainy Day Romance post.

When children speak their minds it is always so pure, thoughtful, and oddly enough.. romantic. They have never actually witnessed love (beyond their family) yet, they know how describe it better than anyone else. When you ask a lot of people who claim to be 'in love' to describe it or to tell you what it feels like or what it means, 90% of the time they aren't able to.

Here, children do it for you. Do you agree or disagree? Which is your favorite

When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.

When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.
You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.
Billy – age 4

Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.
Karl – age 5

Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.
Chrissy – age 6

Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.
Danny – age 7

Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss.
Emily – age 8

Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.
Bobby – age 7

If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.
Nikka – age 6

Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.
Noelle – age 7

Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.
Mary Ann – age 4

All together now.. *Awwww!!!*

Yeah, I know, SO beyond cute.

Can you describe what you think love is?
 I've heard it described as:
"That can't eat, can't sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, world series kinda stuff."
-It Takes Two

Sounds good to me.

You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.

The Most Magical Place on Earth

Finally.. Disney Pictures!

About two weeks ago Andrew and I made an impromptu trip to Orlando, FL. His sister Ashley had to go for a modeling convention type thing and at the last minute his dad couldn't take her. Naturally, Andrew and I volunteered to come along. We were excited to get out of town for a couple reasons. First off, it's Disney World, and secondly, my sister and my two little neices happened to already be there on vacation and we were going to meet up with them one day at the Magic Kingdom.

We had a BLAST!
Here are some of the pictures from the day we met up with the fam!

I just love my family and my cutie pie boyfriend.
I can't wait until the next family vacation!
